Sheila Dikshit's security stepped up after threat to life

Delhi chief minister Sheila Dikshit has received a threat to her life, prompting police to strengthen her security, official sources said in New Delhi today.

An anonymous call was made to the Police Control Room (PCR) by someone whose voice sounded like that of a "middle-aged woman's" on Thursday evening claiming that her life was in danger, the sources said.

The caller claimed that Dikshit's life was in danger for the next 72 hours.

Following the call, police strengthened the security of the chief minister, who has a 'Z+' cover. More personnel were also deployed at her 3 Motilal Nehru Marg residence.

"I do not have any fear. I am not worried also," Dikshit said when asked about the threat.

When asked if she would like to have a strengthened security team, she said, "It is not my duty" apparently meaning that police should decide on the matter. "Actually I wanted to cut down my security," she said.

A senior police official said they were yet to trace the anonymous caller. "We are trying to trace the caller," he said.

Police has handed over the case to the special cell and a case has been registered against unknown persons.

Sources said an additional PCR van has been deployed at her residence besides deployment of more commandos near her residence.

They also said that the call was made from a lost mobile phone which had apparently been picked up by a mischievous person.
