Former Union Minister Shashi Tharoor, today wanted media to stop vilification campaign against chief vigilance commissioner (CVC) PJ Thomas over his appointment to the top post.

What was happening with Thomas over his appointment was a media trial, Tharoor said when asked about the row over Thomas appointment as CVC at a press conference in Thiruvananthapuram today.

The media trial now going against Thomas was not correct and it should be stopped, he said.

"Iam appealing to you (media) to stop the vilification against Thomas," he said.

"What is happening now is a media trial without jury, without justice and without  defence," Tharoor said. "It is a question of once integrity," he added.

"Government take decision to make appointment to the post like this only after going through once records," he said.

The IAS officers association had openly supported him, he said adding that was very rare thing to happen.
