The leader of the opposition, Shaktisinh Gohil, has released a volley of pertinent questions regarding state government-owned GSPC, its tie-up with Adani, and gas exploration in Egypt after a catastrophic failure in the KG Basin.

"Gujarat government's shady nexus with Adani is the epitome of large-scale corruption, rendering the state's coffers empty. After spending Rs 7,000 crore on exploring gas in the KG Basin, the state-owned company is now venturing into Egypt to explore gas in partnership with none other than Modi's blue-eyed boy, Adani." Gohil said.

He said that 60% of the stake is the government's while Adani holds 40%, and cited other details about the nature and terms of their agreement, which is under wraps now.

"It is shocking that Adani is litigating against the government to cancel the 1,000 MW power purchase agreement (PPA) but the government still continues to shower him with lucrative deals," Gohil said.

"I suspect mammoth corruption behind this entire project. GSPC is a state government-run company. How was Adani selected as a partner for this project? Was there bidding or was Adani's now infamous nexus with the CM the sole criteria for his selection?" he asked.

He persisted further asking why the LNG terminal is not being set up in Pipavav, where GSPC is building a gas-based power plant.

"Why have it in Mundra? Is it being done to promote Adani group at the cost of the exchequer?" he questioned.

"Why are project partners for GSPC always selected without proper bidding - be it Adani or Geo Global or Swan Energy? Upright bureaucrats had made it clear in their presentation to the CM that KG Basin does not have more than 2 trillion cubic feet (TCF) of gas - a far cry from Modi's tall claims of 20 TCF," he exclaimed.
