Seven years RI for rape of 10-month-old baby girl

A district court today convicted a rape accused Tikeswar Bhoi (20) and sentenced him to seven years rigorous imprisonment and fine of Rs 5000 for raping a ten month old baby girl in 2006.
     
Additional District Judge Madhumita Das pronounced the verdict holding Bhoi guilty of the crime on the basis of the medical report and after examining 15 witnesses.

The court also ordered an additional six months jail term in lieu of failure to pay the fine.
    
Bhoi was prosecuted under IPC sections 366/376 (kidnapping, abducting of minor girl/ punishment for rape).
    
The accused who hails from Sarbahal village in Sundargarh district had committed the crime on the night of May 6, 2006 while the parents were having dinner in another room of the house.
    
The baby was found crying and sustained bleeding injury and was rushed to the district headquarter hospital in Sundargarh for treatment, the prosecution said.
