The Government Railway Police (GRP) today found the corpse of a seven-year-old girl in the toilet of a stationary train at the Amritsar railway station.
The GRP said that the body was found in the train that had come to Amritsar from Katihar, Bihar, last night.
The body was found in a toilet when the train was being washed.
Preliminary investigation showed that the girl was strangled with a piece of cloth. The cloth was still hanging around her neck when the girl's body was found. There were signs of profuse bleeding from her mouth.
There was no sign of rape, however, the GRP said.
The girl was wearing a yellow and red frock with capris of the same colour and hair cut short. All these things, the police said, indicated that the girl was from a well-off family. But so far they have failed to identify her.
