The administration has initiated security measures which will turn the Gujarat high court and its campus into a fortress in a couple of months. More security personnel are likely to be deployed at strategic places on the large campus to enhance its security and prevent any untoward incidents.

The security measures have been taken in consultation with state security agencies in view of the bomb blast at the gate of the Delhi high court in September this year. The Gujarat high court is visited by thousands of people daily who come from all across the state.

Among the different steps taken by the authorities is the restriction placed by security guards of the high court on the entry of private vehicles into the court campus.

The high court authority has made arrangements for parking of vehicles on a huge open plot adjacent to the existing campus. The land belongs to the high court and will be covered in a future
expansion plan.

"We have allotted separate parking lots for visitors and litigants who come to the campus," said GR Udhwani, Registrar General (RG) of the Gujarat high court.

"The plot belongs to the high court and we have made separate arrangements for visitors and litigants because of security concerns and due to paucity of parking space inside the campus. Only vehicles of high court staff, lawyers, law clerks and vehicles with beacons are allowed to park inside the campus," he said.

In addition, the boundary wall of the high court will be fortified by increasing its height and installing sharp-edged iron fencing on it.
"The current height of the compound wall is around 6 feet. We are planning to increase its height to 10 feet, including the fencing on the top. Weeds and wild grass have also been removed to ensure visibility across the campus," the Registrar General said.

The Gujarat high court advocates association (GHAA) has already started allotting special stickers for the vehicles of lawyers to ensure their unrestricted entry into the campus.
