The self-financed schools of the state will soon come under scrutiny. Acting on complaints from parents and students regarding the quality of education in their schools in the recent times, the Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board (GSHSEB) has instructed all district education officers (DEOs) to conduct surprise checks in such schools.

In its letter, GSHSEB on Thursday instructed all the DEOs to conduct surprise checks in their respective districts and find out whether the complaints made against the schools were genuine. Also, the DEOs have been asked to carry out checks on other aspects like school leaving certificates, whether the school has permission to operate, the number of students in the school, the number of classrooms in the school, number of teachers and their qualifications, etc.

They will also check the attendance records of last three years of the teachers who are working in the school and also of those who no longer work in the school.

The board has also instructed that the DEOs should submit the report within 10 days after a school is visited and that they should immediately take action against the school if it is found flouting norms.
