Security for Commonwealth Games discussed in Delhi

Various important issues relating to next year's Commonwealth Games, including ensuring foolproof security during the event, came up for discussion at a high-level meeting between civil and military authorities here today.

The security aspect of the prestigious event figured prominently at the meeting of the Civil Military Liaison Conference, which facilitates smooth interaction between military and the civilian authorities in the city.

The meeting was attended by Lt Governor of Delhi Tejendra Khanna, Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief (Western Command) Lt Gen T K Sapru and Delhi Police Commissioner Y S Dadwal besides other senior officials of the city government.

Addressing the meeting, Khanna appreciated the manner in which the armed forces have been extending their help to civilian authorities in situations of crisis. The Civil Military Liaison Conference is held every year.

Dikshit lauded the coordinated efforts of the army and civil administration in matters of common concern.The issue of training 30,000 volunteers who will be required during the games was also discussed.

It was decided that civil and military authorities will work in tandem to make cooperation more purposeful. Both sides also decided to deliberate on security related issues of the event. The conference was attended by senior officers of Western Command. From the civil side, senior officers of DDA and MCD were present.
