In a surprising incident, a water packaging unit that was sealed by SMC three days back for running illegally, was found selling water here on Friday again. The vehicle carrying water was seized by SMC officials and they promised to conduct a thorough inquiry into the matter.

According to information, a tempo delivering packaged drinking water was spotted by the members of Dakshin Gujarat Grahak Mandal at Chautapool on Friday. During investigation it was revealed that the tempo belonged to Swagat Packaging, which was sealed three days back by the SMC's health department for not possessing a BIS certificate.

Members of the mandal immediately informed civic health officers, who reached the spot and seized the vehicle and water cans. They took the statements of tempo driver and delivery man, and later allowed them to go. SMC officials assured the mandal members of appropriate action against the company officials for breaching law.

"The company was sealed in the presence of officials from Limbayat zone, and once it is sealed it is the responsibility of the zone to see if the seal is tampered. The tempo driver said that they had procured water from some other company and promised to show us the bills. We are waiting for the bills, after which the next course of action will be decided," KG Patel, food inspector of SMC, said.

But the mandal members alleged that SMC officials and illegal water packaging units were hand in gloves, which has led to such an incident.
