Science City has taken up the initiative to launch an awareness programme about the H1N1 virus through distribution of informative CDs on the subject.

"We need to be aware about the symptoms of the disease and the right place where one can get treated for swine flu. High density of population in the country will make it difficult to control the disease in case of an outbreak. Through this campaign, we are trying to avoid that" said Narottam Sahoo, senior scientist, Science City.

The initiative was launched after the World Health Organization raised the worldwide epidemic alert level to phase 6, indicating that a global endemic might be underway.
"A global pandemic has the potential to adversely affect the already hard hit global economy. Given the fact that swine flu can be easily transmitted, it becomes essential to prevent an outbreak in the state and the country" said Sahoo.

Over 55,000 confirmed cases have been reported all over the world so far. "The public should also be motivated to immediately report potential cases so that corrective action can be taken" said Vineet Jain, a doctor.

The Science City's presentation in this connection provides a comprehensive idea and details about swine flu, its symptoms and actions that need to be initiated.

The CDs are also being distributed at schools. "We need such awareness programmes on swine flu. No one knows how it spreads or what its symptom is. We are simply clueless" said Parag Mehta, a student.
