SC stays HC order granting bail to Maoist leader Kobad Ghandy

The Maoist leader, who has been in jail since 2009 after being arrested, is facing trial in around 20 criminal cases in different parts of the country.

The Supreme Court today stayed the Andhra Pradesh High Court order granting bail to Maoist leader Kobad Ghandy who is accused of killing of a Congress leader and eight others in 2005.

A bench of Justice BS Chauhan and Justice KS Radhakrishnan also issued a notice to Ghandy on a petition filed by Andhra
Pradesh government seeking quashing of the bail granted to him by the high court.

The Maoist leader, who has been in jail since 2009 after being arrested, is facing trial in around 20 criminal cases in different parts of the country.

Congress leader Chittem Narsi Reddy, his son Chittem Venkateswara Reddy and 7 others were killed by Maoists in
Narayanapet in Mahbubnagar district on August 15, 2005.

Ghandy, 63, is now lodged in Delhi's Tihar Jail.
