If everything goes according to plan, visitors at Sarthana Zoo will be able to see new species of animals in the near future. This is because the zoo authorities have chalked out a plan for bringing a Himalayan Black Deer and White Tiger in the zoo. At present, talks with respective zoos are positive.
To add attraction at Sarthana Zoological Park, authorities have speedened up the process for getting various types of animals. With the zoo getting a pair of Asiatic Lions and other animals under the animal exchange programme of Sakkar Baug Zoo in Junagadh, it has initiated a process for other animals as well. Zoo officials are waiting for two female and one male Manipuri Deer to arrive from Junagadh.
The exchange programme with Sakkar Baug has been successful and civic officials have initiated the process for the Himalayan Black Deer and White Tiger.
One Black Deer will be procured from Manipur Zoological Garden in Imphal and the other will be obtained from a zoo developed by the Steel Authority of India at Bhilai in Chattisgarh.
Both these animals will also be brought under the animal exchange programme. Sarthana Zoo is going to exchange a pair of Indian peacock for Black Deer, while exchange programme for Tiger is not fixed yet.
"Our attempts for a pair of Black Deer have been successful and zoo officials are ready to spare one. We are discussing with zoo officials in Bhilai for the tiger. It is hoped that we will be able to get one tiger shortly," said Prafful Mehta, in-charge zoo superintendent.
