Gujarat's only hill station Saputara (Dangs) will have more attraction in coming days as the state government has planned to transform the destination into a complete tourist spot. The process that has already begun is expected to be completed within a year or two.

To attract more number of tourists to the area, the state government will invest heavily in the soon-to-be tourist spot. The plans include a lake at the hill station, which is being developed as the down-stream of current of the lake is 10 times bigger than current lake. Administration has prepared 43 meter high rock-fill dam for creating the lake. Water sports activity will be
developed at the site.

"75% of the work related to the dam is complete and remaining work will get completed till June 2012. We are also planning to develop a river-front at the new lake as it can turn out to be another attraction for the tourists," said Jaynarayan Vyas, state health and tourism minister.

According to Vyas, a butterfly garden and adventure sports facility will also be developed at the hill-station. The work for developing Butterfly Park has been entrusted to zoological department of MS University in Vadodara.

Apart from attractions, state government has also initiated plans to increase accommodation facilities at Saputara. Total number of rooms will be raised from 850 to 5,000 in the next five years and for this government has decided to allot land to hotels at Saputara via tender process.

"On an average Saputara receives 25,000-30,000 tourists per month. Number of tourists is increasing which makes it all the more necessary to have more hotels in the area," Vyas said.

Apart from Saputara, state government has also decided to invest at Ambaji, Dakor and Dwarka. Investment will be based on religious tourism framed by Gujarat Tourism. In first stage, tourism department will invest Rs500 crore at Ambaji and Rs400 crore at Dakor.

Amount will be mostly spent on creating better infrastructure, amenities and entertainment facilities for tourists. At Ambaji a special 3.7 km long trail will be created, which will have temple replica of 51 Shakti-Pitham in India. Tourism department has prepared a blue-print for its investments in Ambaji and Dakor and work is expected to start soon.
