Sanjiv Bhatt a ‘disgruntled’ officer, says Gujarat govt

Opposing chief minister Narendra Modi's appearance before the Nanavati-Mehta commission as demanded by suspended IPS officer Sanjiv Bhatt, the state government has said Bhatt has an ulterior motive behind his application to summon Modi before the commission.

On March 12 and 13, Bhatt had filed two applications before the commission to summon chief minister Modi. On March 26, the government filed an affidavit before the riot inquiry panel, saying that Bhatt was a "disgruntled" officer. "The language used by the said disgruntled officer is thoroughly improper and it cannot, in any circumstance, be tolerated and permitted to be on record. The applicant, Sanjiv Bhatt, has no locus standi to file any such application," the government affidavit, which was made available on Friday, said.

The commission has posted further hearing on the plea to April 10.
