The Reserve Bank of India is learnt to be studying the notes to see how accurately Pakistan's ISI is printing Indian currency. The case comes not long after a special investigation team was set up under the CBI to investigate who tampered with the secret currency template. A few days after the MP police caught the smugglers, the CBI asked for the interrogation reports of the accused and the initial findings of investigations.
"We haven't yet got the report from RBI, but in the informal discussions we had with them it appears that some of the security features have been copied. In other words, you would need an expert to certify that the notes are fake and they cannot be detected by laymen," a senior Madhya Pradesh police officer told DNA.
The officer added that it was only on close study that some fake features could be detected. "The security thread in Indian currency has a bold 'RBI' written on it. In the fakes the word RBI is not so prominent. We were also initially stumped by the discoveries," the officer added.
The two Nepalis, who alleged that Nepal's former crown prince Paras was involved in this racket and was facilitating the transfer of ISI's fakes into India, were arrested from a railway station in Bhopal with over Rs1,10,000 fake Indian currency notes on August 29.
The case is being investigated by the CBI, IB, RAW and the DRI.
