As if India's dismissal show in the ongoing Test series in England is not enough for the cricketer lovers, this piece of news comes as much a surprise to them as to the master blaster. Sachin Tendulkar's childhood friend Dalbir Singh was arrested by Vastrapur police station on Thursday following a complaint filed by Singh's alleged wife Parul Thakkar who after marriage adopted the name Manjit Kaur.

Tendulkar had helped Singh by footing his medical bill in 2010 post a ghastly accident in 2002,Thakkar, a resident of Galaxy Towers, Bodakdev complained of getting lewd messages from Singh even after being separated from him for the past eight years. She was getting nasty phone calls since July 17.

However, Singh who is a resident of Ashok Vatika in Gandhinagar was later released the same day.

In Dalbir's defense his mother Sukhdhyan Kaur, admitted that  Singh send the messages but also said that she was disappointed as the matter could not be solved amicably. "I admit that my son sent lewd messages but he is not mentally stable at present. Instead of approaching the police, she should have informed me and could have solved the matter mutually."

Singh claims that Thakkar is in a live-in relationship with another man. Sources close to Singh said the two have had arguments in past over the custody of their 14-year-old child.

Loot and rape gang confesses to two more crimes in Odhav
A gang that used rape as a tool to ensure co-operation from its loot victims has confessed to committing a similar offence in Odhav in June this year. The gang was busted two weeks ago in connection with a loot and rape incident in Sanand. At that time police had found that the gang members used to first loot their victims and then rape the women so that they would not file a police complaint fearing social stigma.

According to police in the Odhav incident, around nine members of the gang targeted two places near Dastaan Farm and Bhakti Bungalows. The members who were in masks escaped with cash and valuables worth Rs50,000.

"During the interrogation the gang members confessed to raping a woman after the loot but the complainant in the Odhav case had not mentioned the same in the FIR lodged with the Odhav police. We have passed on the information to the city police," said Local Crime Branch (LCB) of Ahmedabad rural police inspector DJ Chavda.

During verification, the complainant was initially reluctant to divulge information but later agreed that looters had raped his relative.

Police said nine women were sleeping outside their homes when the gang struck in the dead of the night. After looting their homes one of the women was raped as well.

Police said that to verify the facts they called the complainant who admitted that a rape had taken place but he did not file a complaint fearing social stigma.

The LCB has so far arrested five members of the gang while three are still absconding.

BG Chavda, police inspector with Odhav police who is investigating the loot incident said that he is yet to get details of the case. Police said that based on the findings the police may add rape section (IPC-376) to the incident.

Kalgi’s Sudama resort raided
The city police raided Sudama Resort, owned by satta kingpin Dinesh Kalgi, on Thursday following information about illegal gambling happening at the resort.

However, no irregularities were found during the operation.

Teams led by DCB police inspector PI  Solanki and Ellisbridge PI PK Purohit conducted a joint raid at Sudama Resort, Ellisbridge on Thursday afternoon.  The raid was conducted following information that large-scale gambling was happening at the resort as the Shravan month was in progress.

Officials said that the raid, which was videographed, lasted from 11.30 am to 1.30 pm. But no illegal activities including gambling were detected.  "No illegal activity was detected during the raid at Sudama Resort," said Purohit.

But some police sources raised serious questions about the way in which the raids were carried out. If sources are to be believed large-scale gambling activities happen at the resort on a daily basis from 3.00pm till well past midnight. "However, the raid was intentionally carried out in the afternoon," said a source.

Sources pointed out that the Crime Branch had conducted a similar raid on the resort three days ago. At that time too no illegal activity was detected.
