Russia today expressed serious concern over the growing number of assaults against its citizens holidaying in Goa and lamented the lack of detailed information from India on the probe into these attacks.
"The Embassy of Russia in India expresses serious concern over the growing number of assaults against Russian tourists spending their holiday in Goa," a press release issued by the embassy here said.
"The other day, one more case of young Russian tourists tormented by a local taxi-driver and two other miscreants was reported to the Indian police. Yet, the Russian side has not received any detailed information from official sources on the results of investigation of the rape case registered by Goan police in the first week of December," it said.
Noting that there were "unfortunately" several other cases of crime against Russian tourists under investigation in Goa, the Embassy called upon the Central and the Goa governments to take all necessary steps to ensure safety of its citizens.
"We feel that prevailing law and order situation damages the prestige of world-famous resort and undermines its image as a popular and safe tourist destination," the release added.
