The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) on Thursday passed the civic body's budget of Rs4,511 crore with a thumping majority, drowning the opposition, Congress's protests against proposals in the budget.

The budget proposals were discussed in the house for two days and majority of the corporators of both the main political parties participated in the discussions.

Apart from deliberating on development issues, the corporators also indulged in heated political arguments and mud slinging besides cracking jokes on other's expense.
"The political and administrative wings are committed to making Ahmedabad  as an important city on the international stage," said Asit Vora, mayor of Ahmedabad.

In his concluding speech, Vora said: "…through overall and balanced development Ahmedabad has shot to fame at national and international level and the credit goes to BJP for its visionary and effective administration and citizens along with other parties, who have also cooperated in development of the city…which is appreciated." Like all the BJP corporators, who delivered their speeches during two-day budget session praising the CM and in-charge minister of AMC, Vora too liberally used Modi's name in
his speech.

This was so obvious that irked at the repeated praises heaped on Modi, one of the senior Congress corporators in the civic body, Hasan Khan Pathan sarcastically asked if the BJP credits only the CM for all development works in the city and 'considers people sitting here of not having made any contribution towards the city's development?'
