Andhra Pradesh chief minister K Rosaiah has directed the district collectors to effectively implement all the welfare and development programmes launched by his predecessor YS Rajasekhara Reddy.

"This government will function with the same spirit as that of YSR and continue to carry out his pet schemes. The onus is on you to ensure effective implementation of all the programmes and that the benefits reached all eligible," Rosaiah told the district collectors in his first video-conference today after assuming office on September 3.

Rosaiah used the occasion to scoff at criticism on his government and assert that his administration was "not in slumber" and was "fully awake."

The chief minister reviewed seasonal conditions, spread of diseases like swine flu and dengue and prices of essential commodities and asked the Collectors to be on high alert.

"Take every step to check the spread of pandemics. Special focus should be given to tribal areas where viral fevers are on the rise," Rosaiah said.

Stating that this was not the problem of the medical and health department alone, the chief minister wanted all other departments to be on alert and launch co-ordinated action to check the spread of diseases.

Rosaiah also wanted the district collectors to ensure implementation of Arogyasri health insurance scheme effectively. "This scheme was close to Rajasekhara Reddy's heart. See that it is properly implemented," Rosaiah added.

The chief minister also asked the collectors to monitor prices of essential commodities regularly and keep them under check.

Rosaiah enquired about the drought relief measures in different districts and asked the collectors to ensure that all farm workers were provided wage employment under the National Rural Employment Guarantee Programme.

"Also see that farm loans are rescheduled and fresh loans disbursed to farmers based on need," he told the collectors.

Ministers Dharmana Prasada Rao, P Sabita Indra Reddy, N Raghuveera Reddy, Aanam Ramanarayana Reddy, J Geeta Reddy, P Sudarshan Reddy, Danam Nagender, Vatti Vasantha Kumar, Botsa Satyanarayana and others were present on the occassion.
