Five powerful rocket propellant grenades, believed to have been passed by United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) to a militant group in Meghalaya, were seized today by security forces during a raid in East Garo Hills district.
Acting on revelations from five arrested cadres of the Garo National Liberation Army (GNLA), a combing operation was launched by security forces at Soinang in the Mendipathar police station area late last night.
A hide-out of a slain GNLA leader, Joking Momin, was busted by the police and the five RPGs were seized from there, superintendent of police Sylvester Nongtnger said.
The police suspects that the GNLA had procured the explosives from the banned ULFA, which also has presence in the area bordering Assam.
On Friday, the Meghalaya police had gunned down four GNLA militants, including Joking, and apprehended five others in the militancy-affected district
