A bid to rob a person of a meagre Rs380 has landed two youths in jail with a Delhi court sentencing them to seven years of imprisonment and imposing on them a fine of Rs30,000.

Additional sessions judge SK Sharma convicted the duo also on the charge of inflicting injury on the victim whom they looted.

"It is proved that while committing the robbery, both the accused persons used deadly weapons and caused injury to victim Narender Singh," said the court.

The court passed its order while deciding the case of robbery committed three years ago in Usmanpur area of North-East Delhi.

On the day, convicts Firoz, 24 and Suraj, 25 along with their juvenile had accosted Singh while he was returning home from his work on his cycle late in the night.

The trio robbed him of Rs380 at knife point and after inflicting an injury on him threatened to stab him repeatedly if does not run away immediately.

The trio were apprehended soon after their crime by a constable who was patrolling the area. All the three accused persons were arrested and the juvenile was produced before juvenile court.

During the trial, the counsel for the accused said the mandatory identification test parade was not conducted for them after the arrest.

But the court rejected their contention saying "the accused persons were apprehended immediately after the incident at the instance of the complainant and therefore, in my view, there was no need for the identification parade."
