Hitting out at the NDA government for delay in the completion of the Durgawati reservoir project in Kaimur/Rohtas districts of Bihar, opposition RJD today said the work had been deliberately stalled due to political reasons.

By delaying the project the Nitish Kumar government was denying irrigation water to the local farmers, RJD MP Jagadanand Singh said and asked them to vote against the ruling coalition in the coming assembly polls.

The erstwhile RJD government had almost completed work at the reservoir before it was ousted from power and the NDA government must explain the delay as well as the Rs60 crore expenditure on it, he told newsmen here.

Singh, against whom an FIR was registered by the NDA government in 2005 for allegedly constructing the reservoir at the wrong place, said he has vindicated after the Supreme Court rejected the charge against him.

Bihar water resources minister Vijendra Yadav had earlier this week released a white paper on Durgawati Reservoir project and promised its completion by 2012.
