UP Congress president Rita Bahuguna Joshi got temporary reprieve when she was granted interim bail from a Moradabad court till July 29. She had been in jail for the past two days over an insulting remark she had made against UP CM Mayawati.

In Lucknow, criminal cases were registered against a BSP MLA Jitendra Singh  and BSP's city unit chief Intezar Abdi, the main accused in the case relating to arson at Joshi's house.

Joshi  said the party's campaign against the BSP regime would be intensified. Mayawati also responded in the same vein saying the BSP would start a country-wide movement against the Congress-led government at the Centre.

"Congress government in UP have always worked to benefit capitalists and industrialists. The latest example is the hike in petrol and diesel prices which have only benefited big business houses," Mayawati said.

Reacting to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi's statement in Amethi on Friday about Central funds being squandered over parks and statues in UP, Mayawati said: "My government has accomplished in two years what the Congress could not in 40  years. I am sending a booklet listing these achievements to all Congress MLAs and MPs and especially to Rahul Gandhi."

Rita Bahuguna Joshi also seemed unrelenting in her scathing assault on Mayawati, though she said she regretted the words she had used against the UP CM earlier.
Coal Minister Sri Prakash Jaiswal visited her charred house and alleged that Mayawati had incited BSP workers to set Joshi's house afire.
