Rita Bahuguna Joshi's bail plea turned down

The bail application of the UP Congress chief was rejected by a court in Lucknow.

The bail application of Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee chief Rita Bahuguna Joshi, arrested for allegedly making derogatory remarks against chief minister Mayawati, was today rejected by a local court here.

The bail plea was turned down by the court of chief judicial magistrate KK Shrivastava.

Joshi was arrested last night and remanded in judicial custody today by the court.

She has been booked under section 153-A (delivering inflammatory speeches) and section 109 of the Indian Penal Code (using abusive language) besides provisions of the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, for making remarks allegedly defamatory of Mayawati in connection with her government's compensation to rape victims.
