The lakhs of people who turned up for Subhash Chakrabarty’s funeral have recharged the CPM.

It has given the party an idea that many people still respect its leaders. And it has given hope that the CPM can still win over the people who voted against it in the general elections.

At an emergency meeting of the Left Front (LF) on Monday, the CPM set to repair the damage. LF chairman and CPM state secretary Biman Bose made an impassioned plea to allies, telling them that only unity can turn around the Front’s fortunes. The Front has thought up a two-pronged strategy to counter the opposition. While the party will reach out to the masses, the administration will counter the Trinamool’s ‘destructive agenda’ boldly.

The CPM announced that two of its leaders will conduct the counter-attack. While Bose will lead his comrades in mass interaction, CM Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee will direct the administration to complete development work on time.

Bhattacharjee, who has shied out of making public statements since the poll debacle, seems to have regained some confidence. “A destructive force backed by one political force at the Centre and Maoists at the state, is pushing back the state by opposing any kind of development. The state’s development will not be possible through theatrics like  ‘Ma-Mati-Manush’. It will be possible only through

Leftist approach of combined development in industry and agriculture and industry,”
he said.
