With the 'inauspicious' kamurta period coming to an end on January 14, mega launches of realty schemes, townships and automobiles are to be announce in the second half of the month.

Due to the inauspicious period, there were no launches in the city after December 15. The real estate sector is upbeat about its prospects this year while automobile dealers are expecting higher demand for luxury cars and premium bikes.

To begin with, Tata Group's township to be constructed in association with Arvind is scheduled for launch next week. In the automobile sector, Mahindra & Mahindra's XUV-5OO and Renault Pulse in the four-wheelers segment, and KTM Duke-200 in the two-wheeler segment are likely to hit city roads in the next 15 days.

Realty experts, however, do not find the ground situation very encouraging. Last year, nearly 100 realty schemes were launched in different parts of the city after Uttarayan. In contrast, this year around 20 new schemes are likely to be launched, sources said on the condition of anonymity. They said market conditions are not so favourable as to encourage developers to launch projects without hesitation.

Be that as it may, it cannot be denied that the city's real estate sector has witnessed a rise in the number of enquiries. Kishor Dedhai, managing director, Space Management Ltd, said there is demand in the market but buyers are holding back because of high interest rates on home loans.

"But the market can improve as buyers waiting for the inauspicious period to end may seal the deal after January 14. An easing of interest rates can further lead to improved market conditions in the realty sector," Dedhai said.

Moreover, developers with properties ready for possession by buyers will try to make the most of the post-Uttarayan mood of consumers and investors alike.

In the automobile sector, many launches and deliveries of cars and bikes are scheduled in the post-January 14 period.
