Rathore's attacker remanded to one-day police custody

Utsav Sharma, was produced before the court of civil judge Paramjit Kaur, who remanded him to one-day custody against the two-day sought by the police.

Twenty-nine-year-old Utsav Sharma, who inflicted knife injuries on former Haryana DGP SPS Rathore, convicted in the Ruchika molestation case, was today sent to one-day police remand.

The youth was produced before the court of civil judge Paramjit Kaur who remanded him to one-day custody against the two-day sought by the police.

Posing as a journalist, Ustav, a student of NID Ahmedabad, attacked Rathore in the face with a pocket knife outside a court here yesterday.

The assailant was immediately arrested and booked under Section 324 (voluntarily causing hurt using a sharp-edged weapon) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the IPC.

The judge ordered mediapersons to leave the court before sending Utsav to one-day police remand. Utsav's father Sushil Kumar Sharma, a professor at IT-BHU, and mother, a psychiatrist and professor at the Institute of Medical Sciences, BHU, were present in the court.
   
Both, who had arrived from Varanasi this morning, declined to entertain questions from reporters outside the court.
