Even as Gujarat gears up for a dual celebration, that of the state's 50 years and also the 133rd anniversary of the Rath Yatra tradition, the Jagannathji Mandir Trust has decided to showcase the ceremony performed by chief minister Modi, online, so as to connect with Gujaratis staying abroad. The ceremony, called the 'Pahind vidhi', will thus be visible to NRGs on the net.

Mahendra Jha, managing trustee of the Jagannathji Mandir Trust, told DNA, "Devotees of the Jagannath temple had been requesting the trust to telecast the video of the yatra live, online. We considered the request of these devotees, who live outside the state and cannot avail the 'darshan' of the yatra."

"As an experiment, we had telecast the 'mangal aarti' online last year. We received very good response from the devotees staying abroad, and could connect well with them through this. Now, on Gujarat's golden jubilee, we have decided to extend the telecast till the moment when the rath is taken to the door of the temple", Jha said. He added that the 'Pahind Vidhi' performed by the chief minister will also be shown.

Jha also said, "The main theme of the yatra will, of course, be traditional, but we will have some symbols to relate to the celebration of Gujarat's 50 years. For example, during the Jalyatra, the practice was of taking one kumbh to fill with water from the Sabarmati, but this time it was 50."

Moreover, the trust is yet to have a meeting with the various 'mandals' who will join the yatra with their truck. In the meeting, the trust will discuss the decorations or the theme and designs of the trucks. These will be based on various subjects, ranging from the mythological to the environmental, from real issues to television serial dramas. However, the trust will try to convince the pandal to have some symbolism to relate to the 50-year celebrations of the state.
