Dwarka, the country’s biggest organised housing colony with 1,00,000 apartments, is a name that regularly appears in the crime chart these days. This happened yet again on Wednesday, with a rape and a sodomy being reported from the colony in a matter of hours.

According to Delhi police, Dwarka was one of the most unsafe areas in Delhi till last year. Thefts and eve-teasing were an everyday affair. “Dwarka was the most unsafe place in Delhi, till last year,” said a senior police officer. “The population density and the free roads aid in crimes. Many eve-teasing and theft cases come up in this area.”

A 32-year-old woman was allegedly raped by her 35-year-old neighbour Laxman Kumar on Wednesday. The woman filed a complaint with the police that her neighbour forced his way into her house and raped her. “Rape has been confirmed in the victim’s medical report, “said a police officer.

In another case, a four-year-old boy was sodomised by two local people after they lured him with sweets and took him to their house. The boy’s mother, Geeta Devi, registered a complaint against Roshan Parik and Vishal for sodomising her son. “He was playing outside his house when the Roshan and Vishal offered him toffees and took him to their house, “said a police officer.

Soon after the incident, Geeta Devi turned up at the culprits house with her neighbours and beat up Roshan and Vishal. She later informed the police. The victim’s medical report confirmed sodomy and the duo was arrested.

On June 29, the dreaded criminal Sonu Kharab and three of his aides fired at least four rounds at the police before slipping away under the cover of darkness in Dwarka.
