Ramdev supporters detained in Nepal

Nepal police today detained over 200 supporters of Baba Ramdev while they were holding a demonstration outside the Indian embassy in Kathmandu against the crackdown on the yoga guru and his followers in New Delhi.

Some of the members of Patanjali Yogpeeth, established by 46-year-old Baba Ramdev, submitted a memorandum to the Indian embassy officials condemning police action terming it to be against human rights in a democratic country like India.

"Police intervened when we were gathering at the Scout ground in Lainchour. However, we were released soon after the detention," Yogpeeth's communication officer Ashwini Koirala said, according to the 'Ekantipur'.

The Yogpeeth is also scheduled to stage a candle-light protest with thousands of followers outside the Indian embassy later today.

Delhi police swooped down on Baba Ramdev and his supporters a little after Saturday midnight and removed him from the scene after using tear gas shells and resorted to lathicharge on his supporters to end his day-old indefinite hunger-strike on black money issue.

Last year, Ramdev held yoga camps in Nepal with President Ram Baran Yadav and Maoist supremo Prachanda in attendance. He has also set up yoga centres across Nepal.
