Tired with corruption, people from across Delhi-NCR area were contemplating joining Baba Ramdev’s indefinite fast at Ramlila Maidan in huge numbers but were in for a rude shock on Sunday morning as they woke up to news of police’s undemocratic and brutal action on innocent people.

“Baba did nothing wrong. Someone has rightly said Vinash Kale Viprit Budhi (at the time of destruction, one go’s against his intelligence) and this is what is happening to this government now,” 45-five-year-old Ashok Gupta, an avid follower of Baba Ramdev, said. “For lakhs of his followers like me, he is next to god. No one will take this lying down. This Congress government should resign or else people would teach them a lesson.”

“UPA government or Ulta Pulta Alliance, it appears as if the government has lost its mind.... No one can justify police’s brutal action on innocent people. I was thinking of joining his fast today (Sunday),” said Harsh Sharma, a young marketing professional. “The government is not sensitive towards its own people.... It’s complete British Raj.”

The police action of Saturday has ignited anger not just among Ramdev’s followers but also among those who didn’t agree with him on many things but were with him in his fight against corruption.

“The government action shows it was scared. When it was unsuccessful in intimidating and cheating Ramdev, it decided to use force. This is completely undemocratic and no one can explain this dictatorial action,” banking professional Shelly Jhingran told DNA.

Ruchir Bansal, a young student, said: “Leaders like Kapil Sibal should be asked to get a medical check-up. Delhi police has also shown its true colours. Why can’t government act concrete on one single issue?”

“One scam after another and now just this action... what explanation they can give now... they have lost all right to continue in power,” said Vidushi Bhatia. The virtual world was also abuzz with support for Baba Ramdev as people criticised the police and government action.
