Supporting Baba Ramdev, eminent Supreme Court lawyer and chairman of the Kashmir Committee Ram Jethmalani on Thursday suggested setting up a commission of eminent people to appoint a Lokpal who has the confidence of the nation.

“The government can’t appoint a Lokpal who will sit in judgment of the prime minister. I want everyone to be included in the ambit of Lokpal provided he is someone who enjoys the confidence of the whole nation,” Jethmalani told media persons after kicking off his Mission Kashmir.

Jethmalani, who is also BJP’s Rajya Sabha member, said, “The method of selecting the Lokpal is more important than any other part of the Lokpal bill.”  Jethmalani said the Lokpal was not the solution to end corruption but a means to solve the problem. “The government is unnecessarily prolonging the issue. It should accept that everybody should be the subject of the jurisdiction of the Lokpal,” he said

He said he would meet Baba Ramdev after the conclusion of his Kashmir visit on June 6. “I am one of the followers of Baba Ramdev. He is fighting a war for the restoration of the stolen property of the people of India. The people of India include those of J&K as well. I think Baba requires the help and support of very citizen of India who cares good for the poor people of this country”, he said.

No war pact with PaK: Jethmalani said India and Pakistan should sign a no-war pact and all issues should be settled peacefully through dialogue. “Nearly 150 lawyers of Pakistan were our guests recently and we unanimously resolved that there should no war pact between India and Pakistan. The problems and disputes between India and Pakistan shall either be solved by dialogue or mediation of by arbitration. Failing al the three there should be reference to international court of justice”, he said.

Earlier, Jethmalani arrived with other members of the Kashmir Committee to kick-off the Mission Kashmir. The unofficial committee had become defunct after its earlier sojourn in 2002. However the committee has been reconstituted in a new avatar since some of the earlier members including Dileep Padgaonkar is the official interlocutor of the government.

Soon after his arrival, he met Hurriyat hawk Syed Ali Shah Geelani at his residence. “I asked him a question that whether he wants Nizaam Mustafa and Shariat as the settled dispensation? Is the terrorism justified means and if your views are yes then it requires legal action.  But I am happy that we all want permanent settlement of the issue”, he said.
