The Rajasthan police today took custody of a wanted criminal, suspected to have links with Babbar Khalsa International terror outfit, arrested by the Rajasthan ATS from Madhya Pradesh.

The criminal Gurmeet Singh was handed over to the Bikaner police by the Rajasthan ATS, officials said.

"Several cases of murder, loot, drug smuggling are registered against Gurmeet in Punjab and Rajasthan. He was even convicted by a court here," a senior ATS official said.

Gurmeet, arrested from Shivpuri yesterday, was declared absconder by the police after he jumped a parole in 2009.

"He was on a 15-day parole in 2009 and was supposed to return to Bikaner Jail on April 14 but he did not turn up. Since then police was searching for him," the official said.

Gurmeet, who had served the army for four years, had in 1976 killed an official of fisheries department in Bundi after an altercation following which he was terminated from the army. He was convicted in the case and sent to 10-year imprisonment.

Few years later, he managed to get service in the Punjab police by concealing the fact but his involvement in criminal activities came to light when his brother was arrested with explosives and his name cropped up during investigation.

He was then terminated from his service and a case was lodged against him.
