Raja Bhaiya ensures prisoners aren't 'harassed'

Uttar Pradesh Minister for Jails Raghuraj Pratap Singh alias Raja Bhaiya today issued "strict" directions to officals to ensure that jail inmates were not subjected to any harassment and were provided basic facilities of water and fans in view of the summer heat.

The controversial minister, who was jailed by previous Chief Minister Mayawati and against whom there are several pending criminal cases including of attempt to murder And abduction, reviewed the working of his department here.

The minister asked the officials to ensure that the food provided to inmates was as per norms and they were also provided basic facilities of water and fans in summers, officials said.

The minister said that from now on, the convicted inmates would be allowed meeting with family members once a week instead of once a month.

Expressing concern over violence in jails, Singh said that inmates should not be treated inhumanly by the jail staff and ensure that they are not subjected to any injustice.

He also asked for preparing a list of critically ill and old inmates so that they are well prepared to provide them prompt medical aid in case of any emergency.
