Rains lash Delhi, affect finishing work in Commonwealth Games projects

Rains lashed several parts of the capital today affecting the last minute mad scramble to finish Commonwealth Games projects.

The showers also brought along the usual problems of waterlogging and traffic snarls.

The rain gauges measured 16.6mm of rains till 5.30pm while the city received 22.2mm of showers for a period of 24 hours ending 8.30am today.

The city has been receiving rains since Sunday morning. Delhi has seen one of its wettest monsoons this year with the city receiving 1,050.2mm of rains, which is well above amount it gets during a normal monsoon.

Rains resulted in waterlogging in many areas and it slowed vehicular movement in places like Dhaula Kuan, ITO, Vikas Marg and parts of Ring Road.

The rains have been affecting the last minute rush to finish the projects related to the Games which is to be held between October three and 14.

As yesterday, the humidity touched a high of 100% today also while the minimum was at 87%.

"It will be a generally cloudy sky tomorrow with one or two spells of rains or thundershowers. In some areas, it could be very heavy," the official said.
