Rain, high winds hit Ahmedabad, Gujarat

The good rain lowered the temperature to 27.7 degree Celsius which is about four degrees less than the average July temperature.

Ahmedabad received widespread rains on Monday. With 95% humidity, the city got 63.1 mm rain in the last 24 hours - less than the 82.6 mm that it received on Sunday - which was the highest 24-hour spell recorded for this monsoon, till July 26.

The good rain lowered the temperature to 27.7 degree Celsius which is about four degrees less than the average July temperature.

The seasonal total rainfall in the city has now reached 474.0 mm, which is 140.7mm more than average.

About 17 sub-stations in the state out of a total 20 stations have received rain above normal. Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), Gujarat, forecasts that more heavy rain will occur in the city and at most of places in the state in the next 24 hours.

The offshore trough above sea level extending from south Gujarat coast to Karnataka persists and increased mid troposphiric cyclonic circulation over north east Arabian sea is also noted. On Monday, monsoon remained vigorous over the entire state.

Chief amounts of rainfall recorded in cm in Gujarat: Kadi - 29, Dhanera - 23, Dantiwada - 16, Detroj - 15, Kalol - 13, Viramgam, Mehsana, Siddhpur --12 each, Mansa, Deesa, Kankrej, Ahwa - 11 each, Wav -- 10, Mandal, Palanpur, Kathlal, Bansda - 9 each, Gandhinagar, Harij, Bodeli, Songadh - 8 each, Sanand, Satlasana, Kapadvanj, Mehmedabad, Patan, Sami - 7 each, Ahmedabad, Mahuva, Bayad, Valod, Vyara - 6 each, Dharoi, Jambughoda, Tharad, Vijaynagar, Sankheda, Nandod - 5 each, Daskroi, Visnagar, Umreth, Dehgam, Vadgam, Kheda, Thasra, Chanasma, Radhanpur - 4 each, 3 cm and less rainfall recorded at a number of places.

In Saurashtra and Kutch, the rainfall records note that Morbi got 14 cm rainfall, Dhrangandhra - 10, Jodia - 9, Kharaghoda -- 8, Halvad - 7, Wadhvan, New Kandla, Rapar - 6 each, Muli, Porbandar - 5 each, Chotila, Chuda, Wankaner, Kutch - Mandvi - 4 each, Limbdi, Maliya - Miyana, Anjar, Gandhidham, Mundra - 3 each. Two cm and less  rainfall recorded at a number of places.
