A senior railway official arrested by CBI for allegedly accepting bribe was today sent to 14 days in judicial custody by a special magistrate.

Chief regional manager of Indian Railway Catering and Tourism KM Tripathi was arrested yesterday for accepting a bribe of Rs70,000 from a contractor for favouring him in a catering contract, a CBI official said.

Tripathi was produced by the CBI at the residence of Special Magistrate Rekha Dixit, who sent him on 14 days judicial custody.

The officer was caught red-handed by a CBI team while accepting bribe, the official said.

During the raid at Tripathi's residence over 4kg gold, Rs25 lakh cash, jewellery worth over Rs30 lakh, over 100 bottles of premium scotch and an illegal .9 mm pistol was recovered.

Three FIRs including one by CBI under Prevention of Corruption Act and two by Lucknow police for possession illegal arm and hoarding a large quantity of premium scotch were lodged against Tripathi yesterday.
