Shweta Bhatt, wife of arrested IPS officer Sanjiv Bhatt, has accused the city police of harassment following raids by cops at two of their houses. Immediately after Bhatt’s arrest on Friday, when he was shifted to Gaikwad Haveli Police Station, Shweta had moved an application to the DGP and CP expressing fear that her husband would be killed in a fake encounter or humiliated by the cops.

Talking to reporters on Saturday Shweta said a police team comprising over 30 police personnel rushed to her house and began searching for papers and other documents kept there. “They even threw water bottles kept on the table and ransacked everything at home,” she said.

The other raid was conducted at the house of Bhatt’s mother in Navrangpura. Talking to reporters, she said that her mother-in-law was not informed about Bhatt’s arrest. He said the raid at her in-laws place was done without informing her or others.

“My mother-in-law suffers from hypertension and she almost fainted when she saw so many policemen inside her house,” Shweta said.

She alleged that the police failed to maintain the integrity of a senior government servant. “What is the use of serving such a government,” she said.

She also accused the police of harassing people who directly or indirectly helped Bhatt file the affidavits in different courts.

Shweta also said that no police official bothered to call her or even offer any sort of help in the matter. Talking about the police complaint filed by KD Panth, she said that Panth was continuously harassed by SIT officials and Bhatt in fact came forward to help him. “He eventually filed the complaint against Bhatt,” she said.
