Seven ultras surendered yesterday to deputy SP Amiya Chowdhury at Kanchanpur in North Tripura district depositing an Insus rifle, 168 live cartridges and two magzines.

The other three surrendered to the commandant of the 15 Battalion of Assam Rifles at Hrankhawlpara camp in the Teliamura police station area on the same day and deposited a hand grenade and 20 live cartridges.

Earlier on Sunday, six insurgents of the same outfit had given themselves up to security forces.

The surrender was triggered by frquent raids by Bangladesh security forces on their hideouts in the neighbouring country, specially in the Chittagong hill tracks, and also a food crisis in the camps, the police said.

In all 346 insurgents of the two banned outfits - NLFT and All Tripura Tiger Force -have surrendered to the security forces this year.
