In an effort to render healing touch to dalits, who were injured recently in a lathi-charge, AICC general secretary Rahul Gandhi will travel to dalit ghettos of Chandauli district 40km from here.

Congress general secretary and in-charge for UP, Digvijay Singh told PTI that Gandhi will soon visit the area to assess the ground realities after dalits in Phaguiyan village, were lathi-charged earlier this month, who alleged that they were harassed by the police.

Singh said that he met with the Dalits of the village and assured them that the Amethi MP will soon travel to meet the aggrieved people.

Earlier, the ex-Madhya Pradesh chief minister chaired a peoples' chaupal in Tedaua village of Naxal-affected Naugarh area, where he assured that if the public grievances were not addressed by the local administration in five days from Diwali, he himself would lead Congress workers to demonstrate at Naugarh.

Maintaining that the state especially Eastern UP has been destroyed in 20 years during non-Congress rule, Singh said that now, the AICC president has asked Congress leaders not to stay in New Delhi, but be present in villages to meet people and fight with them for their demands.

Singh also said that crores of rupees are being sent by the Centre to UP for various welfare schemes, but it's not reaching the genuine beneficiaries and is being siphoned off
by officials of the non-performing government in UP.
