A sub-inspector at Naranpura police station, who had recently completed training at Karai Academy, has proved that courage has little to do with experience. In a scene that seemed right out of a Bollywood action flick, PSI JB Agrawat, on Sunday, caught notorious chain snatcher Pravin Vaghela near Nava Vadaj after an intensive chase, first on the bike and then on foot.

According to details, Agrawat had joined duty at Naranpura police station two months ago after his training. On Sunday, he was leaving for lunch after finishing his duty at the police station. While passing by an open road in Nava Vadaj area, he noticed a crowd shouting for help. "I learnt that two bikers had tried to snatch a chain but had failed in their attempt. While one had escaped, the other was running towards nearby slums. I chased him on my bike but he escaped into narrow lanes, forcing me to abandon the bike. I ran after him and nabbed him from Thakorvas area," said Agrawat. The cop later handed over Vaghela to Naranpura police station officials.

According to HB Jamod, inspector at Naranpura police station, Vaghela and his accomplice Mahesh Thakor of Kadi taluka in Mehsana are notorious chain-snatchers. On Sunday, they had reached the scene of crime on a black Pulsar. "They targeted one Mina Bharwad, who was in the locality with her family to attend a wedding. Thakor and Vaghela tried to snatch her gold chain when she was passing by the road but fell off their bike in the process. The crowd tried to catch them but both of them escaped. Thakor got away but our PSI showed immense courage and caught Vaghela," said Jamod.

Vaghela is involved in more than seven cases of chain-snatching in the city. Thakor is a PASA convict involved in numerous crimes in the past. "Thanks to Agrawat, we have solved seven cases of chain-snatching. We are on the lookout for Thakor now," said Jamod.
