A three-member team led by Sanit Kumar, regional controller of air safety, Kolkata inspected the aircraft belonging to Northeast Shuttle and would submit the report to the DGCA after recording the statement of the pilots, passengers and other eyewitnesses, assistant director of state civil aviation wing Saidenga said.
Meanwhile, officials of the state civil aviation wing said that the cause of the crash was apparently due to rain, strong wind and the most dangerous cloud for aviation called 'Cumulus Nimbus Cloud'.
"Visibility was as low as two kilometres at the time of landing, but the pilot received the permission to land as it is a very small plane," one official said.
He said that the wind that blew during the landing was as strong as about 12 to 14 nautical miles per hour which brought the Cumulus Nimbus cloud throwing the aircraft outside the runway as it already overshot the runway and fell into a brook nearby after damaging the Instrumental Landing System (ILS).
Earlier, an Air India Airbus 320, carrying 140 security personnel, had overshot the Lengpui airport runway on March seven last resulting in the bursting of three tyres.
No one was injured in the mishap.
The DGCA had declared the Lengpui Airport, which has 8,200 feet table-top runway as one of the 11 critical airports in the country and said that the technical facilities available here were inadequate.
Saidenga, however, said that the runway of Lengpui airport is the second longest runway in the Northeast, next only to the Guwahati Airport.
