Gujarat University's vice-chancellor, Parimal Trivedi and some other officials are in trouble. A local court on Wednesday ordered the Gujarat University police station to launch an inquiry against Trivedi under section 156 (3) on the charges of corruption.

The court was acting on a complaint filed by suspended professor Pradip Prajapati who alleged corruption of crores of rupees by Trivedi, in connivance with other officials.

"We have demanded inquiry against Parimal Trivedi and others on corruption charges," said Prajapati's counsel Summit Sikarwar. "According to section 156(3), the police now have to file FIR against Trivedi and others to conduct further probe."

In his complaint, Prajapati has named Parimal Trivedi, in-charge registrar Minesh Shah and an officer, Vaishali Padhiyar, apart from a firm, Wilson Printers, of siphoning off crores of rupees.

According to complaint, the trio, in connivance with each other, entrusted contract of printing of examination question and answer papers to Wilson Printing Press Private Ltd. The contract which ran between 2007 and 2011, led to a loss of Rs1.56 crore to the university, the complaint alleges.

Prajapati said that Gujarat University had to suffer loss of around Rs3 crore as penalty and interest loss after fixed deposit of Rs100 crore was withdrawn by the university authorities from State Bank
of India.

An executive council member at the GU, Manish Doshi said that Trivedi should immediately step down from the post. "It is unfortunate that the state's largest university is facing embarrassing situation because of its vice-chancellor. If Trivedi doesn't resign, the state government must ask him to put in his papers," he said.
