After implementing public-private partnership (PPP) model in various projects, Surat Municipal Corporation has decided to implement the model in sewage treatment. A project for supplying treated sewage water to Pandesara GIDC has been approved by the authorities, for which the civic body will tie up with ADB and Industries Association of Pandesara GIDC.

To meet the water requirement of industries in Pandesara GIDC, the SMC has decided to supply treated sewage water through PPP model. It has evolved a plan to set up a 40 MLD (million litres per day) sewage treatment plant at Bamroli with the help of ADB (Asian Development Bank). The sewage water of GIDC and nearby areas will be treated to strict norms and specifications stipulated by the industries association and then supplied to industries in the GIDC.

The erection of plant, laying of its network, operation & maintenance will be done by a consultant, which will be selected through bidding. The civic body will provide technical support to the consultant and deal with the industries association. The project is important because the SMC will gain from it without investing anything.
