Political battle over Commonwealth Games tableau

A bitter battle between senior members of the Bharatiya Janata Party’s Delhi unit is now affecting the 2010 Commonwealth Games tableau that would be showcased at Republic Day parade.

Vijay Goel, a former member of the organising committee (OC), has come out in support of a designer who had prepared three tableau models. Goel has alleged that the selected tableau was copied from the three earlier tableaux presented by designer Pralay Kumar Mukherjee. He also alleged that the Rs1 crore spent on the tableau was too high. Denying the allegations against the organising committee, authorities said cost of the tableau was not even Rs50 lakh.

Sources in the OC said Goel is upset with the presence of other BJP members who are part of various committees.
