Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad (IIMA), Idea Telecom Centre of Excellence (IITCOE) and students of the Post Graduate Program for executive (PGPX) organised a Telecom Conclave at the institute on Friday.
Theme of the conclave was 'National Telecom Policy 2011- Driver for Changing Telecom Landscape'.With the advent of new business models and services, a need is felt for the regulatory changes to keep up with the pace of the dynamics of the telecom industry.
Important aspects of the policy were discussed threadbare. The focus was on provisions regarding local manufacturing, R&D and spectrum sharing in the proposed telecom policy. IITCOE is likely to forward key points to DoT for consideration during finalisation of National Telecom Policy- 2011.
The conclave was divided in two sections. In the first section the reasons for fall in the average revenue of telecom operators were examined and future service offerings were identified. From the discussion it was concluded that the content will be the next driving force for the industry. The percentage of voice in overall telecom usage is coming down.
The content market is huge and there are a lot of things to come in this segment. The industry needs people who have new ways of looking at things, states the official communique from the institute.
Experts from telecom and related sectors participated in the conclave included Ajay Ranjan Mishra from Nokia Siemens Network, Manoj Dawane from Ericsson India, Ibrahim Ahmed from Cyber Media Ltd, Desi Valli from Net4 India, A Sethuraman from Huawei and Nikhil Jain from Elitecore Technologies. Prof Rekha, the chairperson of IITCOE, guided the conclave.
