Police seize Rs1.35 crore from house of accountant, colleague in Bihar

Police today raided the house of an accountant and his colleague posted in the office of the senior superintendent of police of Muzaffarpur and seized Rs1.35 crore in cash and jewellery.

Police today raided the house of an accountant and his colleague posted in the office of the senior superintendent of police of Muzaffarpur and seized Rs1.35 crore in cash and jewellery, besides freezing bank accounts with deposits showing Rs43 lakh.

A police team led by ASP Manish raided the houses of SK Choudhary, the accountant, and his colleagues Shakuntala Devi and Devi Devi suspecting their alleged involvement in embezzlement of funds meant for Muzaffarpur police here this
morning and seized the money, the authorities said.

While Rs85 lakh were seized from the house of Choudhary, the remaining amount from that of Shakuntala Devi and Devi Devi, director general of police  Neelmani said in Patna.

Choudhary and Shakuntala were were posted at the office of the senior superintendent of police office at Muzaffapur, while Devi was said to be close to Shakuntala. 

All three have been arrested, he said, adding FIR was registered in this connection, he said. 

Neelmani said police also seized five ATM cards and froze several bank accounts of Choudhary. 

The action followed an inquiry that confirmed embezzlement of funds worth around Rs five crore allotted to the Muzaffarpur police by the state government, recently, authorities claimed.
