AIADMK today demanded that the Tamil Nadu government should provide "maximum" security to party chief Jayalalithaa, even as police launched a full-fledged probe into the recent threats to her life.

The party lodged a complaint with state home secretary K Gnanadesikan accusing police of not taking any action on the
threat letters received recently by the party-backed Jaya TV.

A letter submitted by AIADMK treasurer O Paneerselvam and party whip K A Sengottaian alleged that police had not taken any action on the August 8 complaint about the letter received at Jaya TV office.

"At this juncture, another threatening letter was received by Jaya TV, asking the channel to stop airing certain programmes, one relating to the murder of a former minister," the complaint said.

It also claimed that no inquiry had been conducted on their earlier complaint about some persons intruding into Jayalalithaa's house.

Earlier, city police commissioner's office in a release said that the letters appeared to be the handiwork of some persons who wanted to "deliberately create controversy."

"Two cases have been filed in this regard and a full- fledged probe is on to nab the culprits," it said.

Jayalalithaa is already under Z-plus security category and she has also been provided NSG cover. Besides, she was being given protection at her public rallies as well as Kodanadu estate and other places of stay, it added.
