The Rajkot girl who went on fast unto death on Monday for her missing 'girlfriend' has alleged that the city police had forced her to break her fast. She said the police came to her on Tuesday with a statement of her missing partner, Kajal, saying that she didn't want to live with her.

On Tuesday, personnel of Rajkot police's 'H' division arrested her under IPC section 151. The police showed Naseem the statement of Kajal who had reportedly told the police that she did not want to live with Naseem who was 'just a friend'. “This is outrageous," said Naseem.

“The police tortured me and forced me to break my fast by showing me Kajal's statement. If she doesn't want to live with me, why don't her parents bring her to me just once? She must have signed the statement under pressure."

She further said that she was now counting on help from the courts where a hearing is going to take place on April 15. Naseem's lawyer, Samir Chaya, said that his client was beaten up by the police and that when they went to lodge a complaint in this regard the police had refused to register their complaint.

Earlier, Naseem had visited Manvendra Singh Gohil, the gay rights activist and prince of the erstwhile estate of Rajpipla. Gohil had told her that in such cases only courts can help. Gohil lamented that there was no movement in Gujarat for lesbians. Lesbians in the state should work for a support system and for that they will have to knock on the doors of the courts.

“The judiciary is the only hope in such cases. This incident reminds me of a similar case in Halol. In that case, the court gave a historic judgment in which it stated that two adults can live together as friends. It became a kind of benchmark for gay rights activism over the years," Gohil said.
