Delhi police today contested before a court here the charge by top Maoist leader Kobad Ghandy that the investigators had fabricated his "disclosure" statement by obtaining his signatures on blank sheets.

In a reply filed before additional sessions judge RK Gauba, Delhi police's special cell claimed that the accused had levelled false allegations with regard to his disclosure.

The accused never made any such complaint earlier during his appearance before a separate court a number of times since his disclosure statement on October 8 last year, they contended.

The police were responding to an application filed by 63 year old Ghandy, who is in judicial custody, alleging that the sleuths had fabricated his disclosure statement taking advantage of his ill health and forcing him sign on blank sheets under duress.

"The applicant never gave any disclosure statement to the special cell in Delhi or to any other agency. That statement is a false document fabricated by the special cell," the Maoist leader had claimed, urging the court to allow him retract from that statement.

Ghandy alleged he was picked up on September 17, 2009, from a place in the national capital by the police which obtained his first disclosure statement on September 21.

The special cell, which investigated the case against Ghandy, however, claimed that he was arrested on September 20 on a specific input from Andhra Pradesh police.

The police also claimed to have recovered a fake voter identity card issued in the name of Dilip Patel with picture of Ghandy from his possession besides some CDs, documents and other literature relating to Maoist ideology.

The court, taking the response of the police into consideration, asked Ghandy to file his rejoinder to the contention of the investigators.
